Professor Dr. Bilqees Gul of the University of Karachi has been honored with the prestigious High-Level Talent Expert Award under the Shandong Provincial Talent Project by the Bureau of Science and Technology of Dongying District, Shandong Province, China.
Dr. Bilqees Gul is reportedly the first Pakistani woman academic to receive this distinguished recognition. The award acknowledges her academic and scientific contributions, research achievements, and efforts to promote international research collaboration between Pakistan and China.
Under the award, Professor Dr. Gul will serve as a High Talent International Leader in an internationally funded joint research project involving prominent Chinese research institutions. The initiative is expected to strengthen scientific cooperation, knowledge exchange and collaborative research between researchers from the two countries.
As part of the collaboration, Professor Dr. Gul has been invited to China in August 2026, where she is expected to meet Chinese researchers and representatives of partner institutions. During her visit, she will participate in research activities and work with collaborators to finalize mechanisms for implementing the joint project.
This is not her first major international recognition from China. In 2025, she received the PIFI Distinguished Scientist Award under the Presidents International Fellowship Initiative of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. She is also reported to be the only Pakistani woman recipient of that prestigious distinction.
Professor Dr. Bilqees Guls research work has particularly focused on environmental research, climate resilience, sustainable development and natural resource management.
