Tragic Death of Asma Mushtaq During Descent from Spantik

A tragic incident has claimed the life of Pakistani climber Asma Mushtaq during the descent from Spantik, one of Pakistans prominent high-altitude peaks in the Karakoram Range.

According to a statement issued by Karakoram Calling Treks dated August 20, 2026, Asma Mushtaq had participated in a climbing expedition to Spantik (7,027 metres) under Permit No. PAK-06. She successfully reached the summit in good health, accompanied and supported by mountain guide Akbar Ali.

The expedition team said that tragedy struck during the descent at approximately 6,400 metres, when Mushtaq suffered a serious high-altitude sickness-related incident.

Her mountain guide, Akbar Ali, along with another mountain guide, immediately provided assistance and made every possible effort to protect and support her under extremely difficult high-altitude conditions. Despite their efforts and the assistance provided at the scene, Mushtaq sadly could not survive.

Karakoram Calling Treks expressed its appreciation for the courage and dedication of the guides who remained with her and did everything within their ability during the emergency.

The trekking company said it is coordinating with the relevant authorities and Mushtaqs family regarding the necessary arrangements and next steps.

The company extended its deepest condolences to her family, friends and loved ones, praying that they find strength during this difficult time.
