Inspector General of Sindh Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, chaired a high-level meeting at the Central Police Office in Karachi to review and finalize security arrangements for Muharram processions, religious gatherings, and related ceremonies across the city. The meeting brought together senior police officials and prominent Shiite scholars and community leaders.

Attendees included Additional IG Karachi, DIGs from the Security & Emergency Units, Zonal DIGs, Special Branch officers, district SSPs, and representatives from various Shiite organizations and schools of thought.

During the session, Additional IG Karachi provided a detailed briefing on the security plan in place for Muharram-related events across all districts of the city. He emphasized that consultation meetings have already been held in every district to ensure coordinated preparations.

Key security measures outlined in the briefing include:

• Deployment of police personnel at mosques, Imambargahs, procession routes, and other sensitive religious sites.

• Appointment of Inspector-ranked officers as Focal Persons in each district to maintain close coordination with Shiite representatives.

• Provision of special security for renowned Shiite clerics and speakers.

• DIG Security and Emergency Unit will serve as the overall focal person for security operations in Karachi.

A central Muharram Operation Room has been established at the Central Police Office in Karachi. According to IG Sindh, this command center will become operational from June 25, 2025, and will operate round the clock in three shifts until the 13th of Muharram.

The purpose of the operation room is to:

• Act as a central communication platform for rapid and coordinated responses.

• Ensure real-time intelligence collection and immediate action on actionable intelligence.

• Monitor all Muharram-related matters at the provincial level and maintain continuous surveillance and reporting through a dedicated documentation system.

• Maintain close coordination with all relevant stakeholders.

• Stay connected with the Command & Control Center, Safe City surveillance networks, and local police systems.

IG Sindh emphasized that the central operation room will serve as the key communication point between all control rooms at the provincial, range, zonal, and district levels. He reaffirmed that the goal of this initiative is to ensure a peaceful and secure observance of Muharram 2025 through effective communication, rapid response, and strong community engagement.
