KARACHI: For many, motherhood is a journey marked by lullabies, scraped knees, and sleepless nights. But for mothers like me, raising children with thalassemia major, it is a path paved with hospitals, transfusions, and silent prayers.
Thalassemia major is not just a medical diagnosis, its a lifelong struggle. This inherited blood disorder demands transfusions every 2 to 3 weeks just to keep a child alive. My two sons were diagnosed early, and since that day, our reality has revolved around blood banks, hospital beds, and the endless pursuit of safe blood.
Behind their playful giggles and bright eyes lies a painful routine: veins pricked by needles, days lost to fatigue, and the looming shadow of complications. Behind their courage stands a mother, calm on the outside, but quietly fighting despair within.

The emotional weight is crushing. A single missed donation feels like a countdown we cant stop. Every new fever brings fear. And every night, after the world goes quiet, I lie awake wondering what the next day might bring. Still, we press on. Still, we believe.
But belief needs backing.
Awareness about thalassemia is still tragically low. Too many people see blood donation as a favor, not the act of saving a life. But for families like mine, one bag of blood means a few more weeks of strength, play, and possibility.
I dont write these words for pity, I write them for purpose. Thousands of children live with thalassemia. Thousands of mothers wake up each day to this battle. We dont ask for much, just your action: donate blood, spread awareness, support better policies, and help build a future.
We need stronger awareness drives. We need responsive healthcare systems. Above all, we need compassion.
To those reading this: you can make a difference. Your blood can give a child another chance at life.
To every mother fighting this battle: you are brave, you are seen, and you are never alone.
