KARACHI May 6, 2025: The Sindh Food Authority (SFA) has revealed alarming findings that a vast majority of tea stalls and roadside eateries (dhabas) across Karachi are using adulterated milk and chemically contaminated tea leaves.
According to a recent report by the SFA, laboratory tests showed that 100% of tea leaf samples and 90% of milk samples collected from various vendors were found to be adulterated. The tea leaves were laced with harmful chemicals and artificial coloring agents, while the milk contained dangerous additives such as detergents, carbonates, salt, sugar, powdered milk, and water.
As part of its inspection campaign, the SFA visited 127 tea stalls in different areas of Karachi, and shockingly, only 10% were found to be using pure milk.
SFA Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui stated that all the collected samples were tested at a joint laboratory run by the SFA and the University of Karachi. The results are deeply concerning and pose a serious threat to public health, he said.
The SFA has announced that strict action will be taken against vendors involved in the sale of adulterated products. Authorities have pledged to launch a crackdown on those endangering human health by using unsafe and impure ingredients.
The revelation has raised serious concerns among citizens, highlighting the urgent need for stronger food safety regulations and public awareness.
