ICMA Hosts Thought Leadership Lecture on Strengthening the Rule of Law

KARACHI: The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMA) organized a Thought Leadership Lecture at its Head Office in Karachi, featuring Justice (R) Muhammad Ather Saeed, former Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, as Chief Guest and keynote speaker.

Titled Strengthening the Rule of Law Reflections from the Courtroom, the session focused on the importance of constitutional principles, institutional responsibility, integrity and effective governance. Justice Saeed drew upon his extensive judicial career to share insights into the evolving legal and institutional landscape of Pakistan.

Reflecting on his professional journey, Justice (R) Muhammad Ather Saeed discussed his experience across diverse areas of law, including commercial, taxation, banking, arbitration and civil jurisprudence. He highlighted how landmark judgments delivered during his tenure have contributed to establishing precedents that continue to guide future legal proceedings.

He also spoke about the e-Courts Mission Mode Project, explaining how technology is transforming judicial processes and improving access to justice. He emphasized that technological and institutional reforms should go hand in hand with a firm commitment to the rule of law, transparency and judicial integrity.

In his introductory remarks, Azeem Hussain Siddiqui, President ICMA, recalled his longstanding association with Justice Saeed and described him as a mentor. He praised Justice Saeed’s distinguished judicial career and his commitment to the rule of law, sound governance and institutional integrity.

Muhammad Yasin, Vice President ICMA and Chairman of the Research and Publications Committee, welcomed the participants and underlined the importance of thought leadership initiatives in promoting knowledge exchange and encouraging informed policy discourse.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Hakim Ali Jatoi, Chairman of the Karachi Branch Council, who expressed appreciation to the Chief Guest, ICMA leadership, organizers and participants for their contributions to the successful lecture.

As part of the ceremony, shields and souvenirs were presented to Justice (R) Muhammad Ather Saeed and senior ICMA members in recognition of their contributions and services.

The lecture provided a valuable platform for professionals, academics and members of the accounting and legal communities to reflect on the challenges of governance, judicial reform and the future of Pakistan’s justice system.
