Karachi: A group of students from Japan visiting Pakistan to learn the Urdu language paid a visit to Anjuman Taraqqi-e-Urdu Pakistan, where they explored the organization’s literary resources and learned about its efforts to preserve Urdu literature through modern technology.
During their visit, the students spent time in the Anjuman’s library and met with President Wajid Jawad, Secretary Dr. Yasmeen Farooqi, and Deputy Secretary Syed Hassan Abbas. The discussions focused on books and journals published by Anjuman Taraqqi-e-Urdu Pakistan and the organizations contribution to the promotion and preservation of the Urdu language and literature.
President Wajid Jawad briefed the visiting students about the Anjuman’s digitization and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) project, which aims to make Urdu literary material more accessible through digital technology.
The Japanese students showed keen interest in the project and also experienced the technology firsthand by using the related application on their mobile phones. The demonstration provided them with an opportunity to understand how digitized Urdu texts can be accessed and processed using modern digital tools.
At the conclusion of the visit, Anjuman Taraqqi-e-Urdu Pakistan presented the students with books and journals published by the organization as gifts.
The visit provided a valuable cultural and academic exchange between Japanese Urdu learners and one of Pakistan’s leading institutions dedicated to the promotion, preservation and development of Urdu language and literature.
