Karachi: In a landmark development for the countrys healthcare sector, Pakistans first technology-enabled Hybrid Vascular Suite, V-TECH, was inaugurated on Monday at the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Institute of Trauma (SMBBIT). The facility marks a major step toward the limb-salvage initiative titled Amputation Free Sindh.
The state-of-the-art unit was inaugurated by Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Sindhs Minister for Health and Population Welfare, in the presence of senior officials, medical experts, and distinguished guests.
Upon arrival, the minister was received by SMBBIT Executive Director Dr. Muhammad Sabir Memon, Director Administration and Chief Operating Officer Dr. Gul Sanober, and Dr. Muhammad Fahad Tariq Berlas, Head of the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, along with other clinical heads and members of the management team.
The ceremony was also attended by Secretary Health Sindh Tahir Hussain Sangi and Faisal Edhi, Chairman of the Edhi Foundation and member of the SMBBIT Board of Governors.
V-TECH is designed to combine conventional open surgery with minimally invasive, image-guided interventions. The integrated setup will help doctors manage complex vascular conditions while significantly reducing the need for amputations. The facility is expected to benefit patients suffering from diabetes, chronic non-healing ulcers, traumatic injuries, peripheral arterial disease, and other complicated vascular disorders.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Fahad Tariq Berlas highlighted the clinical significance of the Hybrid Vascular Suite and described it as a life-saving addition that will transform vascular care and improve patient outcomes across Pakistan.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Dr. Sabir Memon presented a commemorative shield to the health minister as a token of appreciation. Dr. Gul Sanober also presented her with a traditional Ajrak, reflecting Sindhs cultural heritage and gratitude.
The launch of V-TECH is being viewed as a transformative step toward modern, technology-driven healthcare and a strong commitment to preventing avoidable limb loss in the province.
