KARACHI:A modern fire hydrant system has been successfully completed and commissioned in Karachi’s SITE Industrial Area, aiming to strengthen fire protection for industrial units following a series of recent fire incidents in the area.
The newly installed skid-mounted Electric-Diesel-Jockey (EDJ) 500 GPM Fire Hydrant System features 22 hose reels, 10 hydrant points, two foam reels, and an integrated fire sprinkler system. The facility has been hydraulically engineered to ensure optimal water pressure and enable simultaneous operation of multiple discharge points during large-scale industrial emergencies.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony,Mr. Pervez Hayat Noon, Group Chairman of Pharmatec, praised the technical expertise involved in the system’s design, consultancy, installation, testing, and commissioning. He also commended the project team for completing more than11,000 safe man-hours without a single Lost Time Injury (LTI), reflecting a strong commitment to workplace safety and operational excellence.
The fire safety system was installed byGrow Safe, a leading Pakistani provider of Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) and fire safety solutions.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials, includingDr. Shahida Qaiser, Group CEO of Pharmatec;Dr. Khalid Mahmud Shah, Director Medical Affairs & Medico Vigilance;Mr. Saad Abdul Wahab, CEO of Grow Safe; along with other members of the management and stakeholders.
Shortly after becoming operational, the fire hydrant system was put to a real-world test when it assisted firefighting efforts during a blaze at a neighboring chemical manufacturing facility. The successful response highlighted the system’s reliability and effectiveness in protecting industrial assets, workers, and nearby communities from fire hazards.
