A Story That Shows the True Greatness of Javed Miandad

Some stories go far beyond cricket, they remind us of the power of gratitude, humility, and human connection.

According to the book “Javed Miandad Cricket Ka Field Marshal”, compiled by Muhammad Sajjad Khan, legendary Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad used to receive a bouquet of flowers every morning during a Test series in India. The bouquet carried no sender’s name, only the words, “For Miandad.”

Curious about the mysterious admirer, Miandad asked the hotel staff to trace the sender. Once he received the contact details, he personally called to express his gratitude.

To his surprise, the admirer was an elderly woman who was overwhelmed that a cricket superstar had taken the time to thank an anonymous fan. She requested just one thing, that he visit her home.

Miandad gladly accepted. When he arrived, he met the elderly woman in a wheelchair. With tears of affection, she told him:

“Son, those flowers were my prayers, prayers from a mother you never knew.”

She blessed him, praised his cricket, and Miandad left deeply moved by the encounter.

Three years later, during Pakistan’s 1987 tour of India, Miandad carried gifts to visit her again. Sadly, he learned that she had passed away the previous year.

This touching story is a beautiful reminder that true greatness is measured not only by records and achievements but also by kindness, respect, and the ability to value the love of ordinary people.
