Karachi Cloth Trader Receives Rs5 Million Extortion Threat via WhatsApp, FIR Registered

KARACHI: Another alleged case of extortion has surfaced in Karachi, where a cloth trader in the Soldier Bazaar area reportedly received threats demanding Rs5 million. Police have registered a case and transferred the investigation to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU).

According to police, the complainant, identified as Roshan, a resident of Garden East and a cloth merchant, received calls from multiple phone numbers demanding an extortion payment of Rs5 million.

The complainant stated that on July 2, at around 12:45 pm, his son received a WhatsApp call from an unknown number. During the call, the suspect allegedly demanded Rs5 million and threatened to kill the trader and harm his family if the money was not paid.

Police said an FIR has been registered at Soldier Bazaar Police Station under relevant legal provisions. The case has been handed over to the SIU for further investigation to trace those responsible for the threats.

Authorities have assured that all available evidence, including the phone numbers and WhatsApp communication, is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
