KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the Sindh government to submit a comprehensive report within two weeks regarding a petition alleging that more than 200 children of industrial workers contracted HIV at Kulsum Bai Valika (KBV) Hospital in Karachi, with nine reported deaths linked to the outbreak.
The petition, filed by Advocate Tariq Mansoor, claims that the infections resulted from the repeated use of contaminated disposable syringes and serious deficiencies in infection control practices at the government-run hospital. KBV Hospital operates under the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI).
According to the petition, several provincial authorities and government officials have been named as respondents. The petitioner has sought accountability for the alleged negligence and urged the court to ensure the protection of patients’ rights and improved healthcare standards.
The case has drawn attention to broader concerns surrounding patient safety, infection prevention, healthcare governance, and the responsibility of public healthcare institutions to provide safe and quality medical services to industrial workers and their families.
The Sindh High Court’s proceedings are expected to play a significant role in establishing the facts of the case and determining whether any negligence occurred.
