The President of the Karachi Press Club (KPC), Fazil Jamili, Secretary Sohail Afzal Khan, and members of the Governing Body have extended their heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected office bearers of the Karachi Union of Journalists (Dastoor).
In a statement issued by the Karachi Press Club, the KPC officials congratulated newly elected KUJ (Dastoor) President Nasrullah Chaudhry, Vice Presidents Farooq Sami and Mansoor Ahmed Qureshi, Secretary Rehan Khan Chishti, Joint Secretaries Abdul Rehman and Athar Farooqi, Treasurer Zain Ali, Information Secretary Azfar Waqas Abbasi, and Governing Body members Abdul Qadir Mangrio, Anum Razaq, Arif Habib, Ataur Rehman, Junaid Shah, Khadija Rathore, Shafqat Aziz Bhatti, Rehan Haider, and Salahuddin Abbasi.
The KPC leadership emphasized the vital role of the media in promoting democracy and building a just society. They lauded the democratic process within journalist unions, noting that elections held in a transparent and democratic manner reflect a healthy political culture. They acknowledged KUJ (Dastoor) for upholding its tradition of democratic values.
“The role of journalist organizations in safeguarding the rights of media workers and ensuring their professional development is crucial,” the KPC officials stated. “Journalists have always played a significant role in the struggle for democracy and press freedom in Pakistan.”
Recognizing the ongoing challenges faced by journalism in the country, the Karachi Press Club expressed confidence that the newly elected KUJ (Dastoor) leadership will responsibly fulfill its duties, as in the past, and take effective steps to address the hardships faced by journalists. They expressed hope that the new office bearers will leave no stone unturned in protecting the rights and interests of media professionals.
