KARACHI: The Karachi Editors Club (KEC), in collaboration with DHA Suffa University (DSU), organized an awareness session on Financial Literacy, Voluntary Pension System (VPS) and Retirement Planning to promote financial awareness and long-term savings among journalists, editors and media professionals.
The session brought together leading financial-sector experts, who highlighted the importance of retirement planning, voluntary pension schemes, tax incentives, investment opportunities, risk management and long-term financial security.
Banking Mohtasib Pakistan Sirajuddin Aziz, who attended as the chief guest, shared his personal experiences and emphasized that saving is not merely a financial habit but a necessity for a secure and dignified future. He urged media professionals to develop a culture of regular savings and prudent investment to ensure financial stability after retirement.
Zeeshan Qudoos of UBL Funds, Talha Anwer, Country Head of Al Meezan Investment, and Abid Rizvi of HBL Asset Management provided insights into investment planning and the role of asset management companies in mobilizing savings. They explained how the Voluntary Pension System can help individuals build sustainable retirement income.
The speakers said VPS provides an effective avenue for long-term wealth creation, tax benefits and greater financial independence after retirement. They stressed that starting financial planning early and maintaining disciplined savings can significantly improve an individual’s quality of life in later years.
The session was moderated by renowned anchorperson Wajeeha Najam and jointly organized by Samreen Bari, Head of Department at DHA Suffa University, and Mubasher Mir, Editor Daily Pakistan and President of the Karachi Editors Club.
Speaking on the occasion, Mubasher Mir said that despite economic challenges and rising living costs, saving for the future has become more important than ever.
While current financial conditions make saving difficult, it is no longer an option but a necessity for survival and long-term security, he said.
Manzar Naqvi, Editor of The Financial Daily and Secretary General of the Karachi Editors Club, highlighted the important role of financial institutions in promoting savings and informed investment decisions. He advised investors to consider three fundamental principles before making any investment: security of capital, liquidity of funds and profitability.
Participants appreciated the initiative, describing it as a timely effort to strengthen financial literacy among media professionals. The session encouraged journalists and editors to adopt disciplined savings and investment practices and plan early for a financially secure and dignified retirement.
