HEC Approves Major Overhaul of LLB Curriculum in Key Review Meeting

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has given in-principle approval for a significant revamp of the LLB curriculum, endorsing a newly designed four-year LLB programme that aligns with international standards while addressing Pakistans unique legal education needs.

The approval marks a major milestone following a rigorous three-day session of the National Curriculum Review Committee for Law, organized by the HEC. The updated curriculum will now proceed through formal statutory channels before implementation in law institutions across the country.

The curriculum review sessions were spearheaded by Dr. Amjad Hussain, Director General Curriculum at HEC. Key legal and academic stakeholders contributed to the discussions, including Mr. Hassan Raza Pasha, Member of the Pakistan Bar Council; Barrister Usama Malik, Director of the Directorate of Legal Education; and Dr. Aziz u Rehman, Dean of the School of Law at Quaid-i-Azam University. The deliberations were facilitated by HEC Deputy Director (Curriculum), Mr. Hidayatullah Kasi, who served as Secretary of the committee.

Officials stated that the revamped programme incorporates global best practices and modern pedagogical approaches, aiming to enhance the quality, relevance, and accessibility of legal education in Pakistan.

The HECs decision has been welcomed by legal academics and practitioners alike, who view it as a progressive step toward producing more competent and globally aware law graduates.
