Pakistani actress and singer Fiza Ali has found herself at the center of a social media storm after making controversial remarks about veteran journalist Sohail Warraich during a recent Eid television show.
During the program, Fiza Ali shocked viewers with her blunt comments, saying, If Sohail Warraich were not a journalist, he would have been cleaning washrooms in some foreign country. She went further to add, He ends up in every womans washroom, suggesting a highly inappropriate and offensive innuendo. She also remarked that if singer Jawad Ahmed werent in the music industry, he would be working as a dhobi (washerman).
Her statements have sparked intense criticism across social media platforms, where users accused her of disrespecting a senior journalist and crossing all boundaries of decency and professionalism. Many called her comments vulgar, uncalled for, and a new low for entertainment media.

In response, an op-ed titled “The Race for Ratings, Death of Journalism” by columnist Mian Zahid Islam Anjum, condemned not only Fiza Alis remarks but also the broader media culture that encourages such sensationalism. Once considered the fourth pillar of the state, journalism today dangles on the scales of ratings, he wrote. Calling a respected journalist a cleaner or a dhobi is not criticismit is character assassination.
The comment emphasized that such remarks expose the moral decay within segments of the media industry where disrespect and vulgarity are mistaken for boldness. This is not journalism, this is a circus. Not dialogue, but a street brawl. If you must disagree, do so with reasonnot with insults, the writer noted.
While a handful of Fiza Alis supporters defended her for speaking the truth and challenging the status quo, the majority of public opinion has turned against her. Critics argue that free speech should not be confused with slander and that such comments undermine both professional ethics and the dignity of public discourse.
One user commented, Those who support her should ask themselves: would they tolerate such comments if made about someone from their own family?
The controversy has reignited the debate over the responsibilities of media personalities and the dangerous trend of using shock value for fleeting fame. As the online outrage continues to grow, it serves as a grim reminder that in the race for attention, respect and integrity are often the first casualties.
