KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to reimburse the cost of an airline ticket to a student who was wrongfully offloaded from a flight by immigration officials at Karachi Airport.
The order was issued during the hearing of a petition filed against the offloading of the student, Muhammad Furqan, who was en route to Japan on a visit visa.
During the proceedings, the court summoned the Director of FIA Immigration and the Additional Attorney General of Pakistan, both of whom appeared before the bench in compliance with the judicial directive.
The petitioner’s lawyer informed the court that Muhammad Furqan was offloaded by immigration authorities without being provided any explanation. The FIA immigration officials later admitted that Furqan had been offloaded due to a mistake on their part.
After reviewing the circumstances, the court directed the FIA to compensate the student by paying the full cost of the airline ticket he had lost due to the agencys error.
The judgment is being seen as a strong message against arbitrary and unjustified actions by immigration authorities and is expected to reinforce accountability within government institutions.
