The governments renewed efforts to privatize Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL) have gained momentum, as the Privatisation Commission confirmed receiving Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from eight different parties for the acquisition of 51% to 100% shares, along with management control of the national flag carrier.
Today marked the deadline for the submission of Statements of Qualification (SOQs), with five of the eight interested parties successfully meeting the requirement. Among the prominent contenders is a powerful consortium led by Lucky Cement Limited, Hub Power Holdings, Kohat Cement, and Metro Ventures. Another consortium comprises Arif Habib Corporation, Fatima Fertilizer, City Schools, and Lake City Holdings.

A third group features Augment Securities & Investments, Serene Air, Bahria Foundation, Mega C&S Holding, and Equitas Capital LLC. Meanwhile, individual bids have been submitted by Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited and Air Blue Limited.
According to officials, these SOQs will undergo rigorous evaluation against predefined criteria set by the Privatisation Commission. Parties that qualify will be granted access to a virtual data room to conduct due diligence before proceeding to the next phase of the privatization process.
The broad range of business sectors represented in the EOIs, including cement, power, aviation, education, and investmentsignals growing investor confidence in the government’s privatization roadmap. Analysts suggest this marks a crucial step forward in what is the governments second major attempt to divest PIA.
With the level of interest shown, the privatization of PIA could mark a turning point for Pakistans struggling aviation industry, potentially paving the way for a more efficient and commercially viable national airline.
