KARACHI July 5, 2025: More bodies have been recovered from the debris of a collapsed building in Karachis Lyari area, raising the death toll to 22, rescue officials confirmed.
The rescue operation at the site remains underway, with teams working meticulously to remove debris due to the risk of further casualties. Authorities fear that more people may still be trapped beneath the rubble, which could cause the death toll to rise further.

Speaking to the media, Deputy Commissioner South, Javed Khoso, stated that the rescue operation is expected to take an additional 8 to 10 hours. He said the efforts have now entered a more delicate phase due to safety concerns. “We suspect that 4 to 6 people may still be trapped under the debris,” he added.
DC Khoso revealed that the ill-fated building had been declared dangerous three years ago and a formal notice was issued a month and a half ago. There are still 22 highly dangerous buildings in Lyari, he warned, noting that 16 of these have already been evacuated, and efforts are ongoing to vacate the remaining ones.
Authorities have urged residents of structurally compromised buildings to cooperate with evacuation orders to prevent similar tragedies.
