Karachi: In a shocking incident at a private school in Karachi, a female teacher was physically assaulted by a student, her parents, and an individual posing as a police officer after administering a minor punishment. The incident sparked outrage after a video of the attack went viral on social media, prompting swift police action and the registration of a case.
According to details, the incident occurred at a private school on Jamshed Road. On May 16, teacher Saira Iqbal asked student Eishal Shahid to stand for a few minutes as a minor disciplinary measure for arriving late. The situation quickly escalated when Eishals mother came to the school the next day and confronted the teacher, verbally abusing her despite an immediate apology from both the teacher and the school principal.
However, the matter took a violent turn on May 26, when Eishals father, Shahid, her mother, and her maternal uncle Abdul Hafeez, who falsely claimed to be an SHO from Kalakot police station, stormed the school. Dressed in a police uniform and carrying a weapon, Hafeez forcefully entered the premises, causing panic among students and staff.
He began searching for Saira Iqbal and then barged into another classroom, verbally abusing and assaulting another teacher, Maria Shahid. The group then entered the principals office, where all three launched a physical attack on Saira Iqbal, slapping and kicking her while hurling obscenities. During the assault, Sairas veil and scarf were forcefully removed. Other staff members who tried to intervene were also attacked. One teacher, Shabana, had her finger bitten by the students mother, while another teacher, Faryal, was shoved and had her hand twisted.
Speaking to authorities, the victimized teacher described the attack as not just a personal vendetta, but an affront to the sanctity of educational institutions. A criminal case has been filed against the student, her parents, and Abdul Hafeez under multiple serious charges, including assault, harassment, trespassing, criminal intimidation, and disruption of modesty.
SSP East Dr. Farrukh Raza confirmed that immediate action was taken following the viral video and a formal complaint from the school administration. He clarified that Abdul Hafeez is indeed a police department employee and is currently under departmental investigation. No one is above the law, he stated, promising that full justice will be served to the affected teachers.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of educators and the need for stricter security protocols at educational institutions.
