The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) State Bank Circle Karachi launched a targeted crackdown against individuals involved in the illegal business of Hawala/Hundi and the smuggling of non-PTA-approved mobile phones.
During a series of raids conducted at Star City Mall, Saddar, and various other locations in and around central Karachi, FIA teams apprehended two suspects. The raids led to the recovery of high-value contraband including 192 smart mobile phones and over Rs. 500,000 in cash.
According to the FIA spokesperson, the arrested suspects were allegedly engaged in transferring money abroad through illegal channels and were also involved in the smuggling of mobile phones not approved by customs or PTA regulations.
Additionally, authorities recovered evidence of foreign currency exchange conversations, along with registers detailing records of mobile phone purchases and various foreign currency transactions.
The suspects are currently under interrogation, and further investigations are underway. Raids are also being conducted to apprehend other accomplices linked to the operation.
The FIA has reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling illegal financial networks and curbing the smuggling of unauthorized electronic devices in Pakistan.
